School is out for summer and despite the shift in when I can make stuff, I'm adamant about keeping up with my Project Life album. I literally set everything else aside (ahem, Week in the Life) to work on this yesterday just so I could feel like I'm making progress on something. This two-week spread is from mid-June and features Kelly Purkey's latest kit, Shutterbug.
It was the last week of school and the first week of summer here and life was all about parties + celebrations + being together. Not a bad way to live.
After laying out my photos, I added cards + labels from the kit to balance out those great bold colors. When working from a kit, I always like to find ways to stretch it - like using a paper punch to cut out portions of a card to create a label for journaling. Or using a card that was probably meant to be a filler card and layering mini photos to it like the "photograph" card below.
I love that the cards in Kelly's kits are double sided, and often have a simple grid design on the back. Perfect for someone like me who tries to add as much journaling to her spreads as possible. On the left side of this spread, I used that pretty yellow card to write "school is out. hello summer" with this Tombow pen. The stamps in this kit were particularly fun to layer too - adding text (in black) over a little camera (in yellow) or a light colored patterned card.
I'm still BFFs with vellum and used it in this spread to journal on and then stapled it to the tiny star card (above right). It mutes the stars ever so slightly and the handwriting looks clearer than I think it would have been if I journaled directly on the card.
